• Jeffrey was selected to serve as Novant Health’s interim vice president of development for a year and a half, leading the philanthropy team to raise over $17.5 million in new commitments
• He was the enterprise operational leader for a $10M disaster relief fund, providing financial support to Novant Health team members facing hardships from COVID-19
• Jeffrey was the strategic leader on two successful proposals to Michael Jordan totaling $17 million to build four community clinics serving historically underserved communities

1. How did you get into healthcare philanthropy?

I was drawn to healthcare philanthropy because I wanted to be a part of an organization that truly strives to improve the community and make a difference every day. I was intrigued by the challenges of supporting an organization as complex as Novant Health and the fast pace environment healthcare provides. It fits my personality well and keeps me motivated through the long days and weeks throughout the year.

2. Tell us about a pivot point or crucial step in your career journey.

Moving to Charlotte, NC, from upstate New York was a pivotal decision for my career and my family. I arrived in Charlotte during a significant growth period for the city and in a time where significant change was needed in the community. I sought to work for an organization that could help create the change I was learning this city needed and Novant Health was the perfect fit. I’ve been afforded the opportunity to lead projects that have helped me grow personally and professionally since the move in 2014. 


3. What piece of advice would you give aspiring 40 Under 40 recipients?

Volunteer to take on the challenges, issues, and projects in your organization that no one wants to own. These are opportunities to lead, learn, and grow in your career. They will also be the most rewarding accomplishments of your career when you have a moment to reflect on what you’ve done.
