As a major gift officer at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Courtny has had notable success building relationships with current and prospective donors, which have led to successes like a $2.5 million pledge and two six-figure gifts from individuals who had not previously donated to Princess Margaret. Before moving into her current role, Courtny led the world's largest road hockey fundraiser, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, which has raised more than $26 million to support cancer research at Princess Margaret. In 2019, she led the most successful event to date, raising more than $3.1 million. Over a six-month timeframe in 2022, she raised $1 million towards Canadian Sarcoma Research and Clinical Collaboration (CanSaRCC). CanSaRCC is a group of physicians, scientists and other health care providers across Canada who have joined together to form a team to facilitate interdisciplinary scientific collaborations and perform clinical and translation research in sarcoma. Courtny earned her CFRE credential in 2021.
My passion for healthcare philanthropy began with a personal connection to cancer, and it's become a catalyst to help improve the health and wellness of Canadians and people around the globe.
My involvement in volunteer initiatives and experience serving on community boards ignited my passion to engage with donors, volunteers, and healthcare partners to help accelerate world leading cancer research and enable Future Care Now for patients locally, across Canada, and around the world.
A highlight of my career to date is having led the world's largest road hockey fundraiser, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer. Since 2011, over 15,000 passionate individuals have helped to raise over $26 million to enable world-class cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
The relationships made throughout my career. Through work alongside various stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, scientists, and senior leaders at the Cancer Centre, it demonstrates that cancer research is a team sport and shows the impact that can be made with the right team in place.
My piece of advice would be to be willing to work your way up in the industry and organization. Becoming a subject matter expert and seeing the full picture, as a result of time and energy invested into your role, will help you add the most value and make the greatest impact towards your dedicated cause.
