2022 40 Under 40 Winners

Under Josué’s direction, the Huntington Hospital employee giving campaign surpassed an ambitious goal of 20% employee giving participation, nearly three times its usual average.

Josué established a matching challenge grant for a year end appeal that successfully raised over $600,000 for the hospital’s heart and vascular center -- and surpassed any previous matching challenge to date.

He is a founding associate board member at Pacific Clinics, an agency that offers a full range of mental and behavioral health services, social services, housing to youth, families, foster youth, adults, and older adults in Southern California

Josué earned his CFRE in 2021, and he has completed executive education certificate programs through Boston University and Stanford University.

"It all started when I was working at a national immigration advocacy agency in the legal publications sales department. I was asked if I had ever considered going into fundraising. 

Someone from the development department said to me that my skills in sales would be easily transferable. That was the start of my interest in the fundraising field and the impetus for me to seek out my first fundraising job."

"I decided to make healthcare philanthropy my career because I understand first-hand how having access to quality health care can save lives. I lost both of my parents to cancer, a cousin to the AIDS epidemic, and I myself live with a chronic illness. My lived experience has shown me how critical access to quality health care is.

I want to use my skills to make compassionate health care accessible to those who need it most and to be part of the healing."

"Getting laid off early in my fundraising career was a pivot point in my career journey. At that point I had to make a choice: do I go back to sales, choose a whole different path, or stay committed to healthcare fundraising? I chose to stay in healthcare fundraising.

I value the positive impact quality health care has on individuals who need it and their families, and I want to continue to do my part to make quality health care accessible."

Go out and create opportunities for your professional development: seek out resources and books on fundraising, make a list of goals you want to accomplish, pursue your CFRE certification, stay up-to-date with the latest best practices by attending webinars and seminars, network with other fundraising professionals, and find mentors who can guide you.
