2022 40 Under 40 Winners

Amy's connections and passion for the cause helped the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation bring in more than $1.5M in additional gifts within the space of a year after her promotion to a fundraising role in mid-level giving.

She oversaw the implementation of a volunteer thank you call program, seeing every single donor to the Foundation, no matter what size of the gift, receive a call from a volunteer. These calls are increasing donor retention, repeated and increased donor giving.

Amy was a featured presenter at the 2022 AHP Convene Canada conference, sharing insights into Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s physician champion grateful engagement program.

She holds a Master of Arts from York University in Canada. 

I first started working in healthcare philanthropy in New Zealand. I moved there on a whim and saw a posting for a mat leave replacement position - Prospect Research at the University of Auckland.  I was hired on and launched into so many interesting projects supporting a team of fundraisers, Deans and events staff. When the mat leave ended, they created a position for me as a Project Manager in Donor Stewarding and my love of healthcare philanthropy was born. 

After spending 1.5years working at the University of Auckland, I moved back to Canada and  started teaching yoga full time. I bought a yoga studio and after a few years, my husband and I wanted to start a family.. but one of us needed a so-called "real job". He took on the studio and I thought returning to healthcare philanthropy would be the perfect way to continue increasing the health and wellness of my community, all the while making an impact on peoples' lives. In my heart I knew it would be a challenging and fulfilling career. I have not been disappointed! 

When I first started working at Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, I was hired on as an Assistant - part-time events and part-time philanthropy. Although I enjoyed my work on the events side,  one of my early contributions to the philanthropy team was bringing a prospect who quickly turned into a $500,000 donor. My love of Major Gifts was sparked and I let my supervisor know I wanted to move full-time to philanthropy. I have never looked back! 

It sounds cliche, but my greatest passion is being a mom to my 3 girls. They teach me to be a better, kinder, more dedicated person. I want to raise them to be career-driven, kind and unique individuals and to learn that that life is about joy, happiness and balance. 

Focus on good stewardship. Care about your donors first, make them feel appreciated, show them the impact of their giving and forge strong relationships - all of these things will make your donors feel more connected to your cause and more inspired to give.
