Position requires seven to ten years of demonstrated success in development including a proven track record of establishing and achieving quantified fundraising objectives and experience in effective solicitation of major gifts ($10,000+). Experience in health care and children’s hospitals and ACFRE/CFRE designation is preferred. Candidate must have executive presence and extremely strong communication and interpersonal skills with the aptitude to successfully interface with trustees, system leadership & community leaders. |

Responsibilities: |
|
The Senior Director of Development for the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children (IFHC) serves as the primary fundraiser for the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children and is directly responsible for building and supervising a staff charged with raising funds in support of identified initiatives. Responsibilities include the supervision and direct involvement in the development of prospects, writing proposals, and providing stewardship and relationship management to cultivate annual, long-term and major gift support. This position will be an integral part of Inova’s upcoming comprehensive campaign and be responsible for increasing annual philanthropic giving within the next five years. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development for the Inova Fairfax Hospital campus, the individual in this position will have the authority to make decisions that have significant implications for the campus.
Specific responsibilities include:

Create a strategic operating plan for fundraising for the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children to sustain and increase annual and major giving in support of the achievement of securing $1.5 million in donations specific to IFHC.

Work in collaboration with the Executive Director of Development, medical staff and Foundation leadership to create urgent and compelling Case for Support.

Recruit, train, and provide leadership and staff support to any committees which may be established to meet the fundraising objectives of special service areas and other programs.

Supervise 2-4 staff members. Establish annual and long-term expectations while providing leadership and support to aid in performance management and growth of direct reports.

Through effective management of direct reports, create a cohesive and collaborative team capable of achieving identified goals and objectives. Utilize management techniques to promote a positive work environment that fosters employee job satisfaction and high morale.

Develop and manage a portfolio of 80-120 major gift prospects for the IFHC. Create relationships with and serve as primary liaison to an appropriate pool of major gift prospects.

Administer and maintain a moves management system for identified prospects.

Utilize existing and develop new opportunities to cultivate and/or steward prospects and donors through events and activities including hospital tours, receptions and seminars.

Utilize the Foundation’s prospect screening process to engage volunteers, staff and others in the identification and qualification of new prospects and the evaluation gift potential.

Develop and implement a plan to effectively engage physicians, hospital staff and key volunteers as members of fundraising teams. These teams will develop and implement strategies for specific prospects to maximize gift potential.

Responsible for developing a budget of about 100K for activities in association with Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children.
